Digital foil printing and traditional foil printing (hot stamping) are two common foil application technologies, each with its own characteristics and applicable scenarios. Understanding their differences helps you choose the right solution for your needs.
Difference 1: Plate making requirement. Traditional foil printing requires making metal plates, which takes time and costs high, while digital foil printing does not need plate making, and can print directly with digital files, suitable for small-batch customization.
Difference 2: Customization flexibility. Digital foil printing supports personalized customization of single pieces or small batches, and can easily adjust designs; traditional foil printing is more suitable for large-batch production with fixed designs, and the customization cost is high.
Difference 3: Production speed. For large-batch production, traditional foil printing has higher speed; digital foil printing is faster in small-batch production due to no plate making, but the speed advantage is not obvious in large batches.
Difference 4: Printing quality. Digital foil printing has higher precision for complex patterns and delicate text; traditional foil printing has better foil adhesion and metallic texture for simple patterns and large areas.
How to choose: Choose digital foil printing for small-batch customization, complex designs, or quick proofing; choose traditional foil printing for large-batch production with fixed designs and high requirements for foil adhesion.
